UPDATE 02
We love a road trip, as you probably know. Compared to the seven cross-country road trips the three of us have embarked on together over the years, this afternoon’s drive to Phoenix will be our shortest yet - just two hours! But we’ll have our snacks and time for two podcast eps.
Okay, who cares about road trip snacks (mine is original goldfish), I know you’re all here for updates on Jack’s health! Well, I believe I miswrote something last week and I would like everyone - and most importantly the universe - to hear my amendment.
I ended my last note saying Jack was ready for the fight and this past week was exactly that for him. He fought with the healthcare system for days on end. He fought with the insurance company most of all. He fought with multiple hospitals / clinics attempting to get an appointment. He fought with his PCP office over faxing simple paperwork. Somehow having two brain tumors and being on the edge of acute hydrocephalus isn’t enough to book an appointment with a neurosurgeon?
At the very end of the week, he finally connected with an advocate at the insurance company who we are hopeful will help with expediting exceptions for out-of-network care and quicken the process of getting appointments. While we don’t have an appointment for Jack yet, we’re relieved that we’ll now be down the street from the neuro ER in case of acute hydrocephalus. We’re also hopeful that we’ll have more progress and appointment updates early next week.

As we processed this hell of a week, it occurred to me that, while Jack is ready for a fight, a fight is not what we want. What we are going for is flow.
My greatest wish for this week ahead is that we flow up to Phoenix and we flow into rooms with nurses and doctors and we flow into getting this party started, as Jack puts it. May we find some flow.
Thanks for your support.
